Worldsfactory: Gamescom 2014 Interview

Ecco l'intevista con Worlds factory annunciata nell'articolo precedente:

As we mentioned yesterday in our teaser preview, we met at Gamescom with Miguel Caron, Head of Studio for Online Games at Behaviour Interactive, about Warhammer 40K: Eternal Crusade. After our June interview, we’ve tried to pry even more details about this promising action MMORPG, scheduled for release on PC, Mac and possibly next gen consoles. Enjoy!

I’ve noticed that the game has finishing moves. A few gamers usually complain about getting stuck in those while other players hit them; did you do anything to counter this issue?
Of course. The game is skill based, not stat-based. You can interrupt it, but you can be interrupted as well. Of course, you won’t get the reward in that case. If you want the pleasure of a finishing move, you’ll have to be careful and take a look around, see if you won’t get shot, just like people would do in real life. You wouldn’t want to do that with shots being fired everywhere.

The game is already playable with a controller, right?
Yes, and the UI changes automatically. If you press a button on the controller or keyboard, it will recognize it. It’s completely automatic. Let me tell you about something cool.
Even if you’re under cover and somebody shoots you, you’re getting blurry vision and the screen is shaking – that means that shots are flying around, hundreds of them!

Do you get any penalty for this suppressing fire?
No, because the bullets are not hitting you. If they are, you’re taking damage.

I noticed the player character dodging a lot in the videos, is there no cooldown on that action?
No. Space Marines don’t get tired after a few dodges. We built almost everything around the concept of immersion, with just a couple of small exceptions. For example, some people have been asking about the Imperial Guards being playable, but we don’t really know how to do that – they’re humans, and their life expectancy against these adversaries could be of just a few seconds. They would be completely underpowered.

I’ve read some people in the community asking if there will be stat differences between different races and factions.
Of course. The reason why we’re doing just four factions at launch is that we don’t want to do a simple re-skin. Even different chapters of Space Marines will have different weapons, different stats. If you choose to be a Space Wolf, we want you to feel like a Space Wolf.

A few more questions…What about a dueling feature?
Well, I can’t tell you this for sure but I’ve seen it in the design document for Orks. It’s in their culture, so it makes sense. Another such things is that Space Marines don’t dance, while Orks might.

Will it be possible to bolster the ranks of your players army with faction NPCs?
No. There will be NPCs, but they won’t be combatants, they will only be there for lore reasons.

Finally, can you tell me anything more about the release on next gen consoles?
Well, we’re meeting Sony and Microsoft even now. There aren’t many MMOs on consoles, and some of them have been produced by the platform owners themselves, such as Sony with DC Universe Online or Planetside 2.
Also, we can’t wait one month to get the approval for a certain patch to go live on consoles. But we want it there.

So, is it fair to say that it won’t be available at the same time of the full featured PC release in late 2015?
I really want it to launch on day & date, but we’ll see.

Thank you for your time!
Non c'è nulla di particolare per i fan che seguiono EC da tempo, ma viene detto che il dodge non ha cooldown, inoltre le trattative con sony e microsoft per il crossplatform sono ancora in corso.
